The Federal University of Technology, Minna has assured that it would create synergy with the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) to ensure capacity development in the different areas of engineering profession.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdullahi Bala FSSSN, gave the assurance when he received the Chairman of the NSE, Minna Branch, Engr. Prof. Nasir Abdulkarim who led other members of the Society on a Courtesy visit to the Vice – Chancellor and his Management team recently at the Senate Chamber, Main Campus, Gidan Kwano.

Prof. Bala who lamented that despite the approval of the Senate for the introduction of mining engineering for the past one year, it has continued to remain an uphill task for the University to commence the programme due to lack of personel, also appealed to the society to partner with the University in getting people with the requisite qualifications to be employed to start the long overdue programme.

As part of efforts to ensure sustainable energy on campus, the Vice-Chancellor disclosed that the University has a medium term aspiration to establish a renewable energy power plant that can provide an upbrid supply which would have the capacity to operate for 24 hours at a minimal cost, adding that, funds had already been committed to that effect through the African Centre of Excellence under its Institutional Impact Funds.

He, therefore, tasked the members of the society on the need for collaboration in setting up an upgrade energy solutions as alternative to fossil fuel and the municipal power which are not always sustainable.

Prof. Bala further assured the members of the society of the Management’s support with a view to complementing its activities ahead of the forth coming World Engineering Day.

Speaking earlier, Prof. Nasir Abdulkarim who said that the society deemed it worthy to pay a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor because of his giant stride in infrastructural development in the University, also stressed that the Secretariat of the society in the state, if completed would come a long way in promoting entrepreneurship skills between the University and the society.

He further stressed that as part of activities to commemorate this year’s World Engineering Day, the society would be organising a lecture presentation as well as visits to ophanage homes, correctional centres, and hospitals.
