Prof. Reuben Jiya Kolo of the department of Water Resources, Aquaculture and Fisheries Technology, School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology (SAAT) of the Federal University of Technology, Minna has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Crawford University, Faith City, Igbesa, Ogun State, Nigeria.
According to the appointment letter signed by the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the University, Prof. Peter Okebukola, OFR, and made available to the Press Unit, FUTMinna reads in part:
“I am pleased to inform you that after due consideration of your academic and administrative credentials and following your successful performance at the interactive session with the Selection Committee of Council of the University, approval has been given by the Board of Trustees, endorsed by the Proprietor, for you to be appointed as Vice-Chancellor of the University”.
It is the expectation of the Proprietor, Board of Trustees and Council that during your tenure, you will strive to lift the University to greater developmental heights in line with its vision and mission. We look forward to you providing good leadership for the university, sustaining accreditation of its programmes, significantly improving the funding base of the institution and ensuring prudent management of its financial resources” the letter stated.
The appointment is for a non-renewable period of five years with effect from October 5, 2020.
Prof. Kolo was born on the 21st of March, 1962. He hails from Doko in Lavun Local Government Area of Niger State.
The don is an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he bagged his BSc. degree in Zoology in 1987, MSc. (Hydrobiology and Fisheries) University of Ibadan in 1990 and he crowned it up with a PhD degree (Hydrobiology and Fisheries), FUT, Minna in 1996.
He joined the service of the Federal University of Technology, Minna on July 11, 1990 as an Assistant Lecturer in the department of Water Resources, Aquaculture and Fisheries Technology, School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology (SAAT) and became a professor of Water Resources, Aquaculture and Fisheries Technology on October 1, 2010.
Prof. Kolo has held several positions of responsibilities in the University such as Dean, School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology from 2015 to 2019, Deputy Dean, Postgraduate School 2012 to 2013 and Head of Department WRAFT 2006 to 2010. Others include Deputy Director, Centre for Climate Change and Freshwater Resources 2005 to 2008, Coordinator, Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) 2004 to 2005 just to mention but a few.
He is a member, Agricultural Society of Nigeria, National Association of Fish Farmers and Aquaculturists, Fisheries Society of Nigeria amongst others. He is well published in notable local and international journals.
