Multi-Billion Naira Hotel Facility: FUTMinna VC, Prof Bala Hands Over Site to Shelter Suites

As part of the University’s developmental drive to provide top-notch facilities on Campus, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof. Abdullahi Bala, fsssn, (Walin Zazzau Suleja) has handed over site for the construction of 50-room hotel facility to Shelter Suites & Hotels Limited.

The well-attended event took place today, Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at the project site situated opposite the University Golf Course, Main Campus, Gidan Kwano.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Bala expressed delight to Shelter Suites and Hotels for showing keen interest towards the construction of the hotel facility right from when the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the project was signed, adding that the project is consistent with the University’s vision of providing quality infrastructure on Campus to improve the environment for living and learning.

“The hotel facility is going to provide a very conducive ambience for our guests, students, staff, examiners, parents and others. Beyond that, this hotel facility being what it promises to be, an edifice of international standards is going to stand out in Minna. This hotel is going to provide a very good service for the community in Gidan Kwano as well as Minna and its environs. It is my hope that by the time this hotel is in operation, this place will be a beehive of activities”, the Vice-Chancellor disclosed.

The University helmsman applauded Shelter Suites and Hotels for partnering with the University in the construction of the hotel facility while expressing optimism that the presence of the Hotel close to the University’s Golf Course would provide an avenue for people to come all over the world to FUTMinna to play golf and utilize the hotel facility for relaxation.

The First-rate professor stated that the University under his administration would continue to attract investments from the private sector to address the attendant infrastructural challenges in the institution due to paucity of funds.

The Vice-Chancellor said the partnership with private sector has enable the University to provide a series of services and infrastructure that the institution’s deserves. He described the partnership with Shelter Suites and Hotels Limited as a win-win situation for both parties.

“I want to congratulate members of the University community and Shelter Suites and Hotels for this business venture. This will be the beginning of many things to come from Shelter Suites to FUTMinna”,the University of Reading Alumnus stated.

Earlier in his address, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Shelter Suites and Hotels, Mal. Faruk Aliyu commended the University’s Management for giving them the opportunity to add value to the institutional developmental drive through the construction of the world-class hotel facility.

Mal. Aliyu disclosed that the project would not be the last of infrastructural intervention from Shelter Suites & Hotels as well as Urban Shelter Limited in FUTMinna, adding that the project would serve as a springboard for other productive businesses that would be of immense benefits to the society.

The MD/CEO assured dignitaries at the event that they would all be proud of the quality of the edifice when completed. He thanked the Shelter Suites team for their efforts and commitment to the realization of the project.

Delivering the vote of thanks, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Yahaya Ahmed Iyaka,fcsn, congratulated the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Bala for changing the narrative of University’s administration in the country through the attraction of investments from private sector to complement the normal intervention from the Federal Government.

Prof. Iyaka also thanked Shelter Suites & Hotels for coming to partner with the University through the construction of the hotel facility.

It will be recalled that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the University and Shelter Suites for the construction of the Multi-billion naira hotel facility was signed on September 1, 2020 at the Hawthorne Hotels, Abuja.
