FUTMINNA ARCHITECTURE PROFESSOR RETIRES AFTER THREE DECADES OF SERVICE

Colleagues, friends and family gathered on Monday, 16 February 2026, to honour Prof. (Mrs.) Stella N. Zubairu of the Department of Architecture, Federal University of Technology, Minna, at a colourful send-forth ceremony held at the School of Environmental Technology Board Room, Main Campus.

In his welcome address, the Head of Department, Prof. Muhammad Isa Bala, described the event as a celebration of “service well rendered,” noting that Prof. Zubairu’s over 30 years of dedication, discipline and integrity helped shape the Department’s systems and standards. Fondly called “Mummy,” he said she was a mentor, administrator and guardian of excellence whose legacy lives on in both policies and people.

Goodwill messages poured in from senior academics and professional bodies. The Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Architecture, Niger State Chapter, Arch. Aliyu Yerima, praised her professionalism and commitment to ethical practice, saying her impact is evident in graduates excelling nationwide. Former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Oluwole Morenikeji, and other speakers highlighted her role in postgraduate development, accreditation, sustainability integration and interdepartmental collaboration within the School of Environmental Technology.

Responding, Prof. Zubairu expressed gratitude for the honour, reflecting on a career marked by growth and collective achievement. She urged younger academics to uphold integrity and excellence, affirming her continued commitment to the profession.

The ceremony featured presentation of gifts and a ceremonial cake cutting. Her retirement took effect on 8 February 2026.
