The Guest Lecturer at the 5th Series of Registry Annual Lecture, FUT, Minna and the Registrar Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto, Mallam Belko Nuruddeen Abubakar, has attributed professionalism as a solution for Administrative challenges in Nigeria University system.
Abubakar made the attribution today Thursday, 11th November, 2021 during a paper presentation to mark the 5th Annual Registry lecture on the theme” Professionalism and the Challenges of University Administration in Nigeria” held at the University Auditorium, Main Campus, Gidan kwano, Minna.
Abubakar noted that implementation of the foregoing recommendations can yield desired result only if the operators (academic and non academic staff) of the system adopt in their dealings the fundamental ethical attributes as guiding principles in their daily affairs as espoused by professionalism.
According to the lecturer, such ethical issues are: honesty, transparency, accountability, secrecy, loyalty, dedication to duty and hardworking.
The presenter pinpointed loyalty to mean devotion to duty, allegiance to authority, trustworthiness, consistancy, reliability, Fidelity, dependability and steadfastness among other professional traits.
Speaking during his opening remarks, the Vice- Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof. Abdullahi Bala fsssn, opined that the theme of the lecture ” Professionalism and the Challenges of university administration in Nigeria University ” is apt.
According to the Vice – Chancellor, modern registry has a higher and more innovative demands on the ability and competence of its staff.
Represented by the Deputy Vice – Chancellor Administration, Prof. Emmanuel Emeka Udensi, fnip, he added that a typical registry staff is the perfect administrator, secretary and organizer that all arms of the university depend on to function effectively and efficiently.
On his part, the Registrar and Chief Host
of the Occasion, Mr. Amos Nmadu Kolo,
enlightened that the purpose of the lecture is to provide the platform for members of the Registry Department and the general public to benefit from the experience of the Guest Lecturer in the areas of university administration.
Therefore, ‘in line with the philosophy of the University for attaining the best in all its activities, the Registry Department invited a renowned university administrator and present Registrar Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto to deliver this year’s lecture’,Mr. Kolo added.
