FUTMINNA, FMCB COLLABORATE ON SCHOOL OF MEDICAL SCIENCE, HEALTH TECHNOLOGY

The Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA) has agreed to collaborate with the Federal Medical Centre, Bida (FMCB) to establish a School of Medical Science and Health Technology at the University. This collaboration aims to upgrade FMCB into a University Teaching Hospital.

This significant decision was made during an extraordinary meeting involving University Management, FMCB, and the League of Friends of FMCB on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at the Centre’s Board Room in Bida, Niger State.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, who led the University’s delegation, expressed confidence in the Centre’s infrastructure, training facilities, and personnel to support a Teaching Hospital. He assured that the University is committed to leveraging the Centre’s potential to achieve these goals.

Dr. Abubakar Usman, Medical Director of FMCB, confirmed the Centre’s readiness to serve as a teaching hospital, highlighting its staff strength of 1,950, advanced medical equipment, and skilled healthcare providers. Many of these providers are examiners at the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN) and the West African Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons (WACP/WACS), certifying their capability to train doctors.

Prof. Jerry Gana, Chairman of the League of Friends of FMCB, emphasized that the Centre is well-equipped to transition into a teaching hospital. He noted that FUTMINNA is seen as a suitable partner to help achieve this goal.
