The Niger State Government has pledged a substantial donation of 100 million Naira to the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT, Minna) to expand hostel facilities, addressing the ongoing student accommodation challenges. The announcement was made by Farmer Governor Umar Mohammed Bago during a courtesy visit from the University’s 14th Governing Council on Wednesday, October 6, 2024, at the Government House in Minna, Niger State.
Governor Bago reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure in Niger State, citing the Renewed Hope Initiative, which includes free student transportation services made possible through President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s provision of CNG buses. This initiative aims to ease the effects of recent fuel subsidy adjustments on students.
Commending FUT, Minna’s advancements in programs such as cyber security, software engineering, data science,forensic science, forestry and wildlife Technology and biotechnology, Governor Bago underscored the importance of institutional partnerships across Niger State and emphasized FUT, Minna’s potential leadership in research and academic innovation.
Dr. Mohammed Kudu Santuraki, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, FUT, Minna expressed appreciation for the Governor’s support and assured the University’s dedication to contributing to regional development. Dr. Santuraki highlighted FUT, Minna’s strengths in research output, access to TETFund grants, and high rates of graduate employment.
In addition to meeting with the Governor, the delegation had earlier visited former President Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida GCON at his residence and HRH, the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Dr. Umar Faruk Bahago CON, strengthening the University’s ties with influential regional leaders and reaffirming its commitment to collaborative progress.
