The re – accreditation team leader of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) to the Departments of Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering, Civil Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Engr. Prof. Babagana Mohammad, from University of Maiduguri, has commended the Management of FUT, Minna, for attaining higher scores in the Engineering programmes run by the institution.
The commendation was made on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 during the team’s exit meeting held at the Senate Chamber, Main Campus, Gidan Kwano, Minna.
Engr. Prof. Mohammed who was practically happy with the enabling environment his team met in the institution expressed delights and praised the management for creating such conducive atmosphere that made their stay in FUT, Minna remarkable and the accreditation exercise easier. “The Management of the institution are the behind – the -scene- actors”, the prof. added.
In his analyses of outcome, the accreditation team leader applauded the institution for “allowing the gown to meet with the town through the regular Inaugural lectures which creates conducive relationship between the institution and the larger society.
As part of the team’s commendation, he noted that in the Departments the HODs, other staff always work as teams, they are cooperative, they have qualified teachers who are learnered and are willing to teach with enthusiasm, each of the Departments have the required machineries, conducive environment and Quality Assurance Unit that watch against irregularities among other qualities.
The team observed that as a regulatory body, it is part of their concern to make recommendation to the university because accreditation of engineering programme is a major mandate of COREN in accordance with the law setting up the Council.
‘From the foregoing, it is clear that the Council is working hard to improve engineering education and training and that the accreditation excercise conducted by COREN is for partnership and growth, not for witch hunting, it is aimed at building not for destroying. It is also a very strict process, firm but fair’, he added.
The team also commended the Management for improving over the recommendation made during the March 2016 accreditation exercise.
Responding, the Vice – Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Bala FSSSN, noted that from the outcome of remarks and analysis carried out by the team, it shows that the team had actually carried out its task judiciously. He therefore thanked the team for doing a through job.
Represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administrstion, Prof. Emmanuel Emeka Udensi, fnip, he appreciated the team leader for the positive commendation and that based on the team’s recommendation the Management would look into areas that need to be improved on.
