POSITIVE REMARKS FOR ELECT ENGR’G AS NUC ACCREDITATION TEAM CONCLUDES ASSIGNMENT

Following its assessment of manpower and facilities on ground, the National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation team has given positive remarks about the undergraduate programme of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Federal University of Technology, Minna.

This was disclosed during an exit meeting the team had with the University Management on Friday, December 17, 2021 at Senate Chamber, Main Campus, Gidan Kwano.

The team leader, Engr. Prof. Ogbonnaya Okoro, from the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, who gave a briefing on behalf of the team, noted that the curriculum is “highly commendable “ as it is adequate, innovative and meets NUC’s Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards (BMAS).

He said admission requirements for the programme is robust and in compliance with NUC requirements.
“ The quality of degree projects is very impressive. It is well supervised and subjected to Turn-It-In, “ Engr. Prof. Okoro disclosed adding that staffing was adequate, with an impressive percentage of PhD holders.

While identifying areas for improvement, he noted that the University had implemented the recommendations made by the accreditation panel that visited the Department in 2016.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Bala, fsssn, expressed appreciation to the team for coming to carry out the assignment and putting up a good report.

Prof. Bala who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Emmanuel Emeka Udensi, fnip, gave assurances that the recommendations made would be addressed.

The Vice-Chancellor Prof. Bala had, while receiving the team on a courtesy visit on Thursday December 16, 2021, stated that accreditation is a peer review meant to improve the quality of university education towards ensuring the production of marketable graduates.

He had also given assurances of full cooperation with the team and commended them for their commitment to the development of Nigerian university system.

The Registrar, Mr. Amos Nmadu Kolo and University Librarian, Dr. Katamba Abubakar Saka were at the exit meeting, while the Bursar was represented by Deputy Bursar, Alh. Mohammed Kudu.
