FUTMINNA STUDENTS WIN LAURELS AT ENTREPRENEURSHIP CONTEST.

Undeterred by the ongoing strike embarked upon by Academic Staff Union of Universities, students of the Federal University of Technology, have again won laurels on account of their innovative ideas.

The much came to the fore as a team of students emerged among the best four, out of 38 universities that contested in the 2022 Entrepreneurial Action for Us (ENACTUS) 2022 National Competition, finals of which held on August 30th at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos.

Presenting the students to the University Management on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at the Senate Chamber, Gidan Kwano, ENACTUS Faculty Advisor in the University, Mr. Abraham Twaki of the Information Technology Services (ITS) , disclosed that ENACTUS is a social entrepreneurship platform where students come up with projects that create economic opportunity for their immediate environments.

He further disclosed that the students attained the feat through the creation of a website tagged AGROMART, a solution that creates a link between farmers and consumers thereby eliminating middlemen and increasing income for the farmers.

He thanked the University Management, Alumni and the Dean, School of Infrastructure, Process Engineering and Technology, Prof. Zinash D. Osunde for their support.He also thanked his Co-Faculty Advisors for their efforts.

In his remarks, Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdullahi Bala, FSSSN, congratulated the ENACTUS team for the accomplishment.

He said the University would see the possibility of patenting AGROMART, which he described as a promising platform.“ It is fantastic. The fact that it is a product of our students, I feel very proud,” an enthused Prof. Bala said, adding, “ We want a situation where entrepreneurship would be internalised.”

He tasked the ITS to link AGROMART to the University’s website just as he stressed the need to broaden the membership of ENACTUS in the institution.

Highlights of the occasion were a demonstration by the students as well as presentation of plaques won by the team to the Vice-Chancellor.

The victorious students are: Antananarivo Terdo George (Mechatronics Engineering); Mustapha Rohimot (Crop Production); Abdulrasheed Abdulsalam (Computer Science); Jatto Abdulameed Abdulmuizz (Chemical Engineering) and Abashe Grace ( Computer Engineering).Others are Tobit Odili (Mechatronics Engineering); Mohammed Fauziya (Telecommunication Engineering) Bandekaji Casmir Audu ( Chemical Engineering); Samuel Malum (Computer Engineering) and Abraham Iborida ((Computer Engineering).

Present at the occasion were Deputy Vice-Chancello (Academic), Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Emmanuel Emeka Udensi, fnip; Registrar, Mr. Amos Nmadu Kolo; University Librarian, Dr. Katamba Abubakar Saka as well as Deputy Bursar, Mrs. Rebecca Adams.

Others are Dean, School of Infrastructure, Process Engineering and Technology, Prof. Zinash Osunde; Dean, School of Electrical Engineering and Technology, Prof. Elizabeth Onwuka as well as the Head of Department, Electrical Engineering and ENACTUS Co-Faculty Advisor, Dr. Lanre Olatomiwa.
