*VC Affirms Commitment to Student Welfare

The Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, has inaugurated the newly elected Students’ Union Executives (SU Excos) and Students’ Representative Assembly (SRA) for the 2024/2025 academic session. The event, held on August 28, 2024, at the Senate Chamber of the University’s Main Campus, saw the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, pledging unwavering support for the students.
Prof. Kuta assured the students that the University Management would always be available to provide necessary support, even beyond regular hours, and would promptly address student needs. He reminded the newly elected leaders of the significant responsibilities that come with their positions, urging them to lead with caution, balance, and a focus on the welfare of all students.
The Vice-Chancellor also encouraged the new SU executives to engage the University Management in a mature and fair manner, using proper channels to voice their grievances and concerns. He highlighted that effective leadership is determined not by age, but by the ability to handle assigned responsibilities.
The event also featured remarks from Prof. Adamu Y. Kabiru, Chairman of the Students’ Union Independent Electoral Committee (SUIEC), who discussed the election process, including a re-run for an SRA position, and praised the University Management for their support.
The Dean of Students Affairs Division (SAD), Dr. Bashir Ganiyu, expressed his appreciation for the successful conduct of the elections and emphasized the importance of peace and collaboration for progress within the University community.
The newly elected SU President, Comrade Divine Prince Daniel, in his inaugural speech, committed to leading with integrity and fostering a united and inclusive Student Union. He emphasized accountability, fairness, and the importance of fulfilling campaign promises to ensure the well-being of all students.
The inauguration ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates to the new executives and the administration of the oath of office by the University Legal Officer, Barr. Evelyn Hussaini.
The new SU Executive team, which includes an international student for the first time, is poised to bring a fresh perspective to student leadership at FUT, Minna.
