As a significant step towards boosting research, innovation and development for enhancing effective service delivery, the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT, Minna) has rewarded some of its staff with cash for their outstanding achievements in various research domains and service delivery.
The awards were presented on Friday, 13th December, 2024, during the 4th Edition of the Researcher’s and Inventor’s Award Ceremony and the 2nd SERVICOM Best Performing Staff of the Year 2024 Award Ceremonies.
The Ceremonies held concurrently at the Academic Publishing Centre (APC), Main Campus were aimed to motivate staff of the University to put in more effort in the discharge of their statutory responsibilities.
In his brief remarks at the event, the Vice-chancellor, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta noted that the gesture was necessitated by the University for its passion for excellence and respect for outstanding contributions of staff which are geared towards realizing the fundamental mandates of the University, including teaching, research and community service.
Prof. Kuta who described the event as unique, as it recognized some staff who had demonstrated high level of competency and commitment to their various duties thus, won the SERVICOM Awards for Best Performing Staff of the Year 2024, further noted the importance of Non-teaching Staff in actualizing the goal of research, innovation and development in the University.
“With out the commitment of Non-teaching Staff that render supportive roles in aiding research activities and ensuring secured environment, there can be no effective research in the University,” the Vice-chancellor highlighted.
Speaking earlier, the Director, Directorate of Research Innovations and Development (DRID) and Coordinator of the Researcher’s and Inventor’s Award, Prof. Moses A. Olutoye stated that the ceremony was organized to celebrate the University’s researchers who became outstanding in different research platforms, hence, placing the University’s reputation higher in not only National Research Ranking but also globally.
He highlighted that four categories were showcased for the awards, including, the Q1 Journal Publication, Patented Research Projects, Top 10 Most Cited FUT, MINNA Academic in SCOPUS and the 2024 Top 2% Global Ranking of Researchers by Stanford University.

Speaking on the SERVICOM Award for the best performing staff of the year 2024, the Focal Officer, SERVICOM Unit, Prof. M. Y. Kabir emphasized the significance of rewarding extraordinary performance by staff in realizing the University’s fundamental mandates, adding that, they are the foot soldiers who ensure effective and efficient service delivery.
He explained that the SERVICOM Unit as an entity mandated by the Vice-chancellor to ensure effective and efficient service delivery through its regular monitoring mechanism, also employ a rewarding system where it look out for staff who are delivering services at different domains of the University and subject them for critical evaluation with the view to bringing out the bests performing staff.
Prof. Kabir Further thanked the Vice-chancellor and the Management team for their contributions and supports, hoping that, the development would serve as impetus and motivator for other staff of the University as they discharge the statutory responsibilities.
