FUTMINNA HOSTS SENSITIZATION WORKSHOP FOR HODS TO ENHANCE SERVICE DELIVERY

The Servicom Unit of the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT, Minna ), organized a one-day sensitization workshop aimed at improving effective service delivery within the University system. The workshop, held on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at NITDA Hall, Main Campus, brought together Heads of Departments (HODs) from various schools.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, represented by former DVC (Administration), Prof. S.O.E Sadiku, commended the Servicom Unit for initiating the interactive session. He highlighted the pivotal role HODs play in driving the University’s core mandates of training, research, and community development, emphasizing that the effectiveness of HODs is crucial for achieving institutional success.

The workshop featured a presentation by Prof. Yusuf A. Kabir, the Focal Officer of FUT, Minna and convener of the workshop, titled “The Role of Heads of Departments in the Service Delivery Chain of the University.” He stressed the importance of systematic coordination, monitoring, and adherence to University ethics in achieving efficient service delivery. Prof. Kabir urged HODs to ensure prompt commencement of lectures, compliance with academic schedules, and the integrity of staff-student relationships while maintaining the University’s reputation.

Prof. Kasim U. Isah, Director of ACTU, spoke on “The Role of HODs in Achieving Productive, Qualitative, and Transparent Service Delivery in the University.” He emphasized the need for visionary and transparent leadership by HODs, adding that their administrative actions must be fair and decisive.

In another presentation, Prof. Umar Sheshi Isah, Director of the Quality Assurance and Productivity Unit, outlined the core responsibilities of HODs, including organizing departmental meetings, supervising academic activities, preparing and submitting examination results, and addressing students’ concerns effectively.

The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. John Alhassan Kolo, Director of the Academic Planning Unit, who appreciated the University Management for supporting the initiative. With over 56 participants in attendance, the event provided an engaging platform for interaction between presenters and attendees, fostering a deeper understanding of the roles and expectations of HODs in enhancing service delivery.
