The Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA) has emerged winner of the prestigious “Cyber Security Academic Institution of the Year 2025” award, conferred by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
The award was presented to the Department of Cyber Security Science, School of Information and Communication Technology (SICT), FUT, Minna, on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at NITDA Headquarters in Abuja. The honour recognizes the University’s outstanding contributions to advancing cyber security education and research in Nigeria.
A delegation from the Department, led by the Dean of SICT, Professor Jude Tena Kur, formally presented the award to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta, on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at the Academic Publishing Centre (APC), Main Campus.
In his remarks, Professor Kuta expressed delight over the recognition and commended the Department for its visionary leadership and commitment to excellence. He praised the team for designing and implementing a comprehensive curriculum in Cyber Security, which has yielded notable successes over the years.
“I commend the implementers of this curriculum for their dedication, commitment, and loyalty to the system. This achievement is a testament to their hard work and strategic focus,” he stated.
Reiterating the importance of teamwork, the Vice-Chancellor urged all staff to continue supporting the University’s leadership in its pursuit of innovation and service excellence. He encouraged every unit to align with the institutional vision to ensure quality and impactful service delivery.
Earlier, Professor Kur emphasized FUT, Minna’s pioneering role in establishing the first academic programme in Cyber Security Science in Nigeria. He highlighted the Department’s robust curriculum, the outstanding performance of its staff and students, and consistent support from University management as the factors that contributed to the national recognition.
He expressed sincere appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor and Management for their steadfast support of both the Department and the School of ICT.
It is worth noting that FUT, Minna was the first Nigerian university to introduce a full academic programme in Cyber Security Science, reinforcing its leadership in technological innovation and academic excellence.
