The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA), Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, has applauded the West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) for championing impactful projects geared towards mitigating the effects of climate change in Nigeria and across the African sub-region.
He gave the commendation while receiving members of the Centre’s International Academic and Advisory Board on Climate Change and Human Habitat (CC&HH), who paid him a courtesy visit on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at the Academic Publishing Centre (APC), Main Campus.
Prof. Kuta acknowledged WASCAL’s role in positioning FUT, Minna on the global map through strategic partnerships with renowned international institutions, including Germany’s Federal Ministry of Education and Research, thereby attracting students from within and beyond Africa.
“WASCAL has brought our vision of internationalize of FUT, Minna into reality,” the Vice-Chancellor stated.
He further emphasized the importance of translating research outputs into practical solutions and urged the Centre to diversify its focus by integrating climate change projects with the agricultural value chain to address food security challenges in Nigeria.
In her remarks, the Director of WASCAL, Prof. Appollonia. A. Okhimamhe, who led the delegation, explained that the visiting board members, drawn from WASCAL’s international network including Germany, Ghana, and Benin Republic, were at the university to engage with stakeholders on the Centre’s graduate programme, PhD in Climate Change and Human Habitat (CC&HH). She added that the visit also provided an opportunity for participants to experience firsthand the conduct of external examinations at FUT, Minna.
Prof. Okhimamhe commended the staff of the Centre for their dedication and reaffirmed FUT, Minna ’s strong partnership and unwavering support for WASCAL’s mission.
The interactive stakeholders’ session, held on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at the WASCAL Centre, Main Campus, brought together participants both physically and virtually. It featured representatives from WASCAL’s global partners, including Germany and Burkina Faso, as well as a representative of the Honourable Minister of the Federal Ministry of Environment.
