The Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT Minna) has been ranked as the 7th best university in Nigeria in the 2026 edition of the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.
This marks a significant improvement from its previous position of 10th in the 2025 rankings, highlighting FUT Minna’s continued growth and reinforcing its status as the leading specialized University of technology in Nigeria.
According to the ranking published on THE’s official website, FUT Minna is placed within the 1,500+ band globally. The 2026 rankings assessed 2,191 institutions across 115 countries using 18 performance indicators grouped under five key pillars: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement, and international outlook.
Reacting to the announcement, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta expressed joy over the development, noting that FUT Minna’s performance among the 51 Nigerian universities featured in the 2026 ranking is a testament to the institution’s rising profile.
” It’s a joyous moment for us. Climbing to the 7th position nationally reflects the hard work of our staff and students. It also confirms our position as the best specialized University among the universities of Technology in Nigeria”, the Vice – Chancellor said.
He further emphasised the institution’s aspirations, stating,”We are not resting on our oars, our goal is to be among the top three universities in Nigeria by the end of 2026. With God”s help, I hope to see FUT, Minna emerge as the best University in Nigeria before the end of my tenure “.
Times Higher Education is a globally respected organization that provides data-driven insights into higher education institutions worldwide. For a university to be included in the ranking, it must teach undergraduates, conduct research across multiple disciplines, and have published at least 1,000 research outputs between 2020 and 2024.
