The Bursary Department of the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT Minna) held its 4th Annual Bursary Lecture on Friday , November 7, 2025 at SICT Lecture Theatre Main Campus, with a call for Nigerian universities to embrace revenue diversification for financial sustainability.
Delivering the lecture titled “Exploring Revenue Diversification for Financial Sustainability of Nigerian Universities: Problems and Prospects,” President and Chairman of Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Dr. Haruna Yahaya, stressed the need for universities to explore alternative funding sources beyond government subventions.
He identified key strategies such as consultancy services, endowment funds, alumni contributions, industry collaboration, and research commercialisation, noting that diversification strengthens financial stability and institutional autonomy.
Declaring the event open, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, described the lecture as timely and commended Dr. (Mrs.) Hadiza Goje, the University Bursar, for her innovation and leadership in sustaining the lecture series.
Dr. Goje highlighted the department’s achievements, including digitalisation of operations, enhanced accountability, and capacity-building initiatives, noting that universities must adopt creative financial approaches to remain sustainable.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of a plaque and certificate to Dr. Yahaya and the Bursar’s Award 2025 to outstanding staff members.
