The Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT Minna), in partnership with the European Union (EU), has held a capacity building programme to enhance Sub-Saharan Africa’s response to migration and security challenges.
The project, titled “Building Capacity of Sub-Saharan Africa Higher Education Institutions in Addressing Migration and Security Issues (101236802),” took place on February 11, 2026, at the NITDA Building, Main Campus.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Engr Prof. Abdullahi Muhammad, described the initiative as timely, noting that it provides young people with realistic insights into migration. He cautioned against irregular migration, stressing that success is achievable at home through innovation, skills acquisition and self-reliance.
Project Team Lead, Dr Abdulkadir Usman and Deputy Director, DCAL, explained that the initiative approved in September 2025 was developed in collaboration with partner universities in Saudi Arabia, Italy and Ethiopia.
He said the programme promotes understanding of “migraturity,” a concept examining migration trends and their societal implications, especially the growing movement of skilled academics and students abroad.
Speakers highlighted the importance of collaboration with agencies such as the Nigerian Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons to strengthen migration governance and protect vulnerable groups.
The programme reaffirmed FUT Minna’s commitment to advancing research, policy dialogue and public awareness on migration and security in partnership with international stakeholders.
