Real life problems can be transformed into mathematical concepts and language, Prof. Yomi Monday Aiyesimi, of the Department of Mathematics, Federal University of Technology, Minna, has said.
The don emphasised this on Thursday, September 16, 2021 when he delivered the 90th Inaugural Lecture of the institution held at the University Auditorium, Main Campus, Gidan kwano, Minna.
In the lecture titled, “Applied Mathematics: The Reality, Validity and Contemporariness of Mathematical Modeling to Real Life Problems,” the Professor of Applied Mathematics pointed out that the process involves a wide variety of real life problems in the natural sciences, engineering, social sciences, physics among others, which can all be modeled into mathematically solvable problems.
He added that the results obtained must necessarily conform to natural laws and real life observation.
According to him, it is commonplace for physicists, engineers, statisticians, operation research analysts and economists to apply extensively the use of mathematical modeling.
