VC FLAGS OFF NEW SOFTWARES, PROMISES ITS STAFF TRAINING SPONSORSHIP

The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof Abdullahi Bala FSSSN has flagged off new Stand-Alone Result Computation App ( Version IIII ) and its manual as well as Students Mobile App (Version 1.1) developed by the staff of the Information Technology Services (ITS) of the University.

Speaking during the flag off of the softwares on Monday, October 18, 2021 at the NITDA Hub, Main Campus, Gidan Kwano, Prof. Bala said the software version 3.0 is a response to the issues that have been coming up at the result scrutiny and Senate meetings.

The VC commended the efforts of the staff of ITS for developing the softwares and several others, at no cost to the University.

“One thing I like about ITS is that they do deliver even without asking. I cannot remember us telling them to go and develop version 3.0 to address the challenges arising from the older versions but because they are responsive to their duties, they without being prompt developed this version to address these issues,” he noted.

According to him, ITS has been very responsive in the development of websites and softwares for subunits in the University.

His words: “ITS is one centre that we can say is living up to its responsibilities.. In fact, not living up to but living beyond its responsibilities and we are happy with the staff efforts because they make our work a lot easier.

In response to the requests made by the Director, ITS, Prof. Adamu Mohammed , Prof. Bala in recognition of the efforts and foresight of the staff of the center directed both the Chairman of the Committee of Deans and the Registrar to make a special case for ITS staff in terms of training and capacity building.

“Of course for the ITS staff to remain at the top of their game, they need the support of Management and as I said, when you are happy with your child, you go extra mile to encourage the child we would within our available resources continue to support them in terms of training and other areas of capacity building’, he said.

In addition the VC approved an in house training for the users of the software and provision of laptops for academic office being the reservoir of all academic results.

In his presentation, the Director, ITS said the software was developed as a result of complaints received from the computation of results and generation of various reports for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

He said the software has passed through major stakeholders within the system for accuracy, efficiency and sustainability. Some of the features of the software include: addressing all reasons for stepping down results at scrutiny, fused course registration with results, additional reports computation and generation, user manual and bugs fixed

On the Student Mobile App, version 1.1, he said it ,would give students ease access to information on their results, payment status and University Campus News as well as enabling parents to monitor their wards progress from the comfort of their homes

Earlier in his welcome address, the Deputy Director, ITS, Dr. Bala Salihu expressed appreciation to the University Management for their support, which has made their work easier.

He noted that the first and second versions of the stand alone result processing software were developed between the years 2000-2002 and 2012-2017 respectively.
