The Chairman House Committee on Public Account in the National Assembly, Abuja, Hon. (Dr.) Busayo Oluwole Oke has observed that peace, love and harmony exist among the entire community of the Federal University of Technology, Minna.
Hon.. (Dr.) Busayo Oluwole Oke made the appraisal when he delivered a public lecture on the topic ” Accountability and Transparency in Nigeria: The Role of Accountants” at the First Annual Lecture of Bursary Department held today, 21st October, 2021 at the PTDF Chemical Engineering Lecture Complex, Main campus, Gidan Kwano, Minna.
Hon. Oke alerted that the unity he found in the University replicates what they as members uphold in the National Assembly. Adding that the multi ethnicity and cultural diversities existing in the institution did not dither the harmony.
Affirming that the university is well known for the nurturing of competent graduates. ” I have not less than ten of my staff who are graduates of this institution and doing well” he asserted.
Speaking on the topic of the lecture, the Fellow Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and Institute of Management Consultants, admonished Management Staff and the Bursary Department to explore other areas of human endeavours rather than restricting themselves to only the accounting profession, adding that their job demands an all – round expertise. He enlightened that the Vice Chancellor and the Bursar are the two Chief Accounting Officers of the University going by accounting policy.
The Guest Lecturer applauded the Bursar and her staff for bringing lots of achievements to the University that calls for celebration.
Speaking earlier, the Vice – Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Minna Prof. Abdullahi Bala FSSSN, enunciated that it was with great pleasure that he stood to address the guests on the occassion of the First Annual Lecture of the Bursary Department. “It is the first of its kind, hence, I commend the Bursar and her staff for this milestone achievement”
The Vice – Chancellor, added that he was particularly impressed with the way funds are managed in the Bursary Department.
During her opening remarks, the Bursar of the University, Mrs. Hadiza Goje, FCNA, FCTI, appreciated her departmental staff for all their contributions that led to the successes that are being acknowledged by all today. She pointed out that the effort is not hers alone but that of the entire staff of the Department.
Some of the achievements recorded by the department include:
- Deployment of Accounting officers to Schools and Directorates, which has brought bursary services closer to staff and students,
-Putting in place a sustainable internal control mechanism to promote transparency in the University accounting system and - Efficient management of funds during the prolonged 2019/2020 Session without debt among other achievements.
