The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof. Abdullahi Bala, FSSSN, has commended the School of Physical Sciences (SPS), for organizing a recognized international conference.
Prof. Bala gave this commendation when he declared open the 3rd Biennial International Conference of the School with the theme ” The role of Science and Technology in realization of research and Development in the Era of Pandemic.” on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at the CPES Hall, Bosso Campus.
The Vice-Chancellor who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Emmanuel Emeka Udensi fnip, congratulated the Dean of the School, Prof. Jonathan Yisa and other members of staff for organizing the conference.
He further encouraged interested participants in diaspora who can not make it to the conference physically to connect online through zoom.
Prof. Bala said the theme of the conference was timely and urged participants to utilize every knowledge garnered.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Dean, Prof. Jonathan Yisa, stated that the aim of the conference was to bring out the role of Science and Technology in this pandemic/ crisis driven period.
” Scientists are to be problem solvers rather than repeatedly talking about problems without providing solution”, he reiterated.
He further called on the government to introduce streamlined platforms through which scientific research institutions could actualize their visions and missions
The keynote speakers include the Director General, National Research Development Agency, Dr. Halilu Ahmad Shaba; Group Head, NIGCOMSAT, Dr. Muhammed K. Alkali; the Chair, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, North Carolina University Durham, U.S.A, Dr. Abdul K. Muhammed represented by Dr. Idris Jega and Dr. Derek Tantoh Ndinteh of the Department of Applied Chemistry, University of Johannesburg.
They maintained that important scientific researches done by various institutions should not be domiciled in the laboratories but rather be put to work and their benefits maximized in solving most societal Problem’s.
