GOVERNOR BELLO TO CONVERT ALL NIGERLITES TO FARMERS THROUGH INITIATIVES

Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello had indicated readiness to convert Nigerlites to famers through people friendly initiatives.

The governor mentioned this on Thursday 28 October, 2021 at the University and local farmers interactive ceremony held at the University demonstration farm of the Adopted School Programme for Quality Seed Extension established at the University in collaboration with the National Agricultural Seed Councils, Abuja.

The governor who was represented by the Niger State Commissioner of Agriculture and Rural Development, Engr.. Ibrahim Muhammad Panti assures of training youth on modern agricultural techniques.

On his part, the Director General, National Agricultural Seed Council (NASC), enlightened that improved seed is the most cost effective means of enhancing agricultural productivity .

He observed further that the development and adoption of improved seed were instrumental to the achievements of green revolution, making food available to both producers and consumers.

During his early remark, the Vice – Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdullahi Bala FSSSN, pointed out that the occasion is an epoch making event, as it is first of its kind in the institution.

He appreciated the Director General NASC, Dr. Philip Olusegun Ojo for accepting them when they visited and for responding to their requests swiftly leading to the days occasion.

Other events that unfolded at the occasion, were the touring of the farm and the interaction between local farmers, the seed merchants and the University staff led by the Head of Department of Horticulture, Dr. Haruna Ibrahim and Alh. Idris Dantsoho Aliyu, Director, Seed Industry Development and Technical Support Services.
